Gifts made by credit card, check, online donation, or through automatic bank withdrawals offer a simple and immediate way to support NJCU students and programs.

A pledge allows donors to structure their giving over time in a way that is meaningful and manageable. Pledges can make it possible to contribute at a higher level while maintaining flexibility in how and when the gift is fulfilled.

Donors may contribute publicly traded securities, closely held stock, or real estate such as a primary residence or vacation property. These gifts may provide significant charitable tax advantages while making a lasting impact on NJCU.

Many employers will match charitable contributions made by their employees — sometimes doubling or even tripling your gift. Check with your employer or your spouse’s employer to see if a matching gift program is available. Matching gift forms can be submitted to the NJCU Foundation along with your contribution.

Create a legacy that supports future generations of NJCU students. Planned gifts may include bequests in a will or trust, naming NJCU as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement account, or establishing a charitable gift annuity or other planned giving vehicle. Our team can assist you in selecting the option that aligns best with your financial and philanthropic goals.

A Special Opportunity for Those 70½ Years and Older

You can give any amount (up to a maximum of $108,000) per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as the New Jersey City University Foundation without having to pay income taxes on the money. Gifts of any value $108,000 or less are eligible for this benefit. This popular gift option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD for short. You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions. Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.

The NJCU Foundation accepts gifts of real estate — including residences, investment properties, land, or other holdings — that can provide substantial tax benefits while supporting the University’s mission.

Donors may establish a named annual scholarship without the need to create an endowment. Annual scholarships offer a powerful way to directly support an NJCU student’s educational journey. With a multi-year commitment (for example: $5,000 or $10,000 per year for three years), you can fund a need-based scholarship that assists a student from their first year through graduation.

Scholarship donors may name their award in honor or memory of an individual and often have the opportunity to meet their recipients at scholarship gatherings.

Endowments provide long-term, sustainable support for NJCU. Once established, the principal remains invested, and a portion of the earnings is used annually to benefit students or programs. A minimum gift of $50,000 is typically required to establish an endowed fund.

Gifts made in honor or memory of a family member, friend, colleague, or mentor offer a meaningful way to celebrate their legacy while supporting NJCU students.

Non-monetary contributions — such as equipment, books, software, or other resources — are greatly appreciated and can enhance learning opportunities across campus.

If you would like to make a gift through a Donor Advised Fund, please direct contributions to the New Jersey City University Foundation, Inc. Donors may have their DAF administrator mail checks to the Foundation’s gift processing office.

We offer a wide range of funds and priorities so every donor can support the area that matters most to them.
